Giving Thanks Challenge: A Celebration of Gratitude

This post was originally shared in our email newsletter on December 3rd, 2024.

We had a record-breaking crowd turn out for our last round of voting in our Giving Thanks Challenge in partnership with Walden Mutual

It was a very tight race that came down to a difference of just 3 votes!

The entry that received the most votes shared beautiful words about a friend who demonstrated resilience and altruism. I, like many of you, was moved by the compassionate spirit of this appreciation of Kisha from her friend Tara.

Congratulations to Tara and their friend Kisha! See their full written appreciation below.

Tara will receive our grand prize: an expenses-paid trip for two to the Hudson Valley, loaded with private tours and perks at a number of exciting independent businesses that are helping chart a sustainable future. In addition, Tara’s chosen nonprofit, NĀTIFS , will receive a $500 donation on her behalf.

North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NĀTIFS), founded by The Sioux Chef Sean Sherman , is dedicated to addressing the economic and health crises affecting Native communities by re-establishing Native foodways. Chef Sean once gave one of my favorite TED talks: Why aren't there more Native American restaurants?

If their mission resonates with you, you could ask for a donation as your holiday gift this year or consider their online store for some purposeful gifting.

I want to thank everyone who participated in this event, whether you submitted an appreciation, voted or told friends about it. This page will live on as a monument to our better nature. These expressions of kindness have lifted my spirit, and I hope they've done the same for you.

Should we do it again?

In appreciation,

— Harry from Keap, Steward-Owner

p.s. Finalists, we’ll be in touch shortly about your prizes!

If you enjoyed this article, you might enjoy our not-quite-weekly free newsletter where we share our lessons on our journey toward our regenerative vision, product launches, and behind-the-scenes happenings.

We left social media in 2021 because we found its current mechanics didn’t align with our purpose to facilitate connection to the natural world, our loved ones, and our own spirits. Since then, our newsletter has become a vibrant place for healthy conversation around topics ranging from alternative business ownership models to happy hour cocktail recipes.

What our readers say about it:

“It’s very thoughtful and not sales-y like all other marketing newsletters.”

“I like reading how a business is trying to be as progressive as possible in a capitalist system.”

“I normally delete emails from businesses but with the Keap newsletter I was actually interested in reading through! Made me feel that you guys really care about us and the work you do."
