A Sumo Orange Match

This post was originally shared in our email newsletter on April 19, 2024.

It would have been impossible for me to predict at the onset that the winning entry of our photo contest would feature an arena of citrus spectators, raptly watching two sumo oranges compete on a demerara sugar dohyō. Yet it is also true that I expected no less from this amazingly creative group. :)

I hope you all enjoyed this celebration of creativity as much as we did! You can now see all our valid submissions posted here.

Congratulations to longtime Keaper Helen for the excellent winning entry, and to all our finalists, participants, and voters for making this one to remember. Helen will receive a yearlong candle subscription . In addition, her chosen nonprofit, American Farmland Trust (AFT), will receive a $400 donation.

This gives me the opportunity once again to highlight AFT’s incredible work, centered on the belief that farmland nurtures our spirits and souls. Their work aims to stop the loss of farmland in America through advancing farmland protection and regenerative farming practices, helping existing farmers stay in business, and supporting farming opportunities for a new generation of farmers, including women, people of color and under-represented groups.

You can learn more about their work here or subscribe to the new No Farms, No Future podcast.

Thank you to all who participated in this event. What do you think we should do for our next game?

Playfully yours,

— Harry from Keap, Steward-Owner

If you enjoyed this article, you might enjoy our not-quite-weekly free newsletter where we share our lessons on our journey toward our regenerative vision, product launches, and behind-the-scenes happenings.

We left social media in 2021 because we found its current mechanics didn’t align with our purpose to facilitate connection to the natural world, our loved ones, and our own spirits. Since then, our newsletter has become a vibrant place for healthy conversation around topics ranging from alternative business ownership models to happy hour cocktail recipes.

What our readers say about it:

“It’s very thoughtful and not sales-y like all other marketing newsletters.”

“I like reading how a business is trying to be as progressive as possible in a capitalist system.”

“I normally delete emails from businesses but with the Keap newsletter I was actually interested in reading through! Made me feel that you guys really care about us and the work you do."
