Keapers share ideas for improvements to our products

Last week we dove into your thoughts on sustainability. Today we’re exploring our product offering in more depth.

Keapers celebrated the joyfulness of their subscription experience, rating it, on average, a 9 out of 10.

When we asked why, it wasn’t about one standout feature. Instead, responses described a holistic experience emphasizing quality, simplicity, ease, humanity, and the changing of the seasons. Many highlighted how the subscription had served to ignite, support, or complement important personal routines or rituals.

This quote encapsulated it well:

“I love how personal receiving the candle feels. A team member often checks in to confirm my subscription--even the candle-pouring notification feels intimate, somehow! I can't explain it. I love the inserts in the package and reading the newsletter and note, inspiration, etc. I also swap out the coasters at my desk and on my wardrobe with each shipment, so there is something about the renewal around my home that each delivery brings. It's not just a candle. I love that each shipment is like a gift that permeates throughout my day-to-day. It's especially lovely since I moved cross-country to Los Angeles 4 and half years ago. I love feeling that connection to New York, where I lived for 12 wonderful years. The candle reminds me that I came out here intentionally and sought to keep the things that serve me and let go of the things that don't. <3”


Survey respondents, across subscribers and one-off purchasers, generously shared a number of ideas for how our products or subscription could be improved.

New Scents

It would be nice for Keap to launch a new scent (our last creation was Canyons, (back in 2021)! We’ve been quietly working on some new creations for the past year, and I’m pleased to say that the first one will launching to subscribers this December!

More Variety of Scents 

We had a number of requests for more variety or availability of scents. Some one-off buyers advocated for their favorite scent: “If I could [only] get the wild figs scent any time I want :)”. Some clamored for more scents to be available at once, or simply to make all our scents available all the time.

If you missed it, in 2023 we made the difficult decision to pare down our offering to ensure our business remained viable, and to focus on doing a few things really well. That said, we have something in the works for next year that might make our Wild Figs fans happy...

New Formats

We always get requests for all sorts of candle formats. While we're trying to keep things simple, we do have two updates:

  1. This October, we are doing a limited edition run of hand-thrown ceramic candles with our friends at Jono Pandolfi . (Check out this past collaboration).
  2. For those asking about votives — it's now on our roadmap! There are a few other improvements we’re tackling first, but we are working towards it.

Subscription Flexibility

A number of you shared requests for more subscription flexibility. For some, like adding Limited Release candles to regular subscription shipments , we face challenging technical barriers that we are working through. But did you know you can already add one-time candles , include matchboxes , switch to quarterly shipments among many other options? All of these actions and more are available in the subscriber portal. We’re working to make these features easier to find. In the meantime, we’re always happy to help or edit your subscription for you if you email us.

Lower Price Point Options

We had a number of requests for lower price point options to enjoy Keap candles. We understand our candles aren't cheap. We're always trying to find ways to make them more accessible without compromising on quality (votives are one idea!). Here are a few current options that might be of interest in the meantime:

  • Scent-to-Home ($19): Tealight sampler which makes a great white elephant gift or stocking stuffer for those who are new to Keap
  • Packaging-light 6-packs : For Limited and Special Releases, we offer candles in lightly packaged 6-packs at just $34.50 per candle, thanks to the efficiencies we get with this format. Keep an eye on the newsletter for these events.
  • Studio Seconds Events : We offer the candles that didn’t quite meet our standards at discounted prices, online and in-person. Keep an eye on this newsletter for those announcements.
  • Other Ongoing Discounts: Subscribers get $10 off their candles (more on multipacks), and can skip or delay as much as they like. One-off buyers can also benefit from discounts on 2-packs and 4-packs.

Going International

We had a number of overseas fans respond to the survey! I’d love for Keap to be available everywhere.

That said, beyond carbon footprint/sustainability questions to resolve, we, unfortunately, learned in our Kickstarter launch days that candles tend to fare poorly when shipped overseas. Additionally, International shipping costs are often prohibitive: in many cases they exceed the price of the candles themselves.

We do nonetheless have plans in future to sell in Canada, whose proximity makes those issues less significant. On est happy! 🇨🇦
