An Update on New Scents and More

This post was originally shared in our email newsletter on July 15th, 2024.

It’s not unusual for Keapers to send us long, thoughtful notes, sharing deep insights that help shape the direction of our company.

I love receiving this hefty bounty of love, constructive criticism, and sometimes philosophical pondering. We get to experience both the incredible diversity of experiences in our community, and also see some interesting commonalities and patterns.

I am back from my break and have started work on our annual Keaper Survey, which gives us a pulse across our whole community. Last year, among other findings we glimpsed remarkable trends in social media use. In response to the feedback, we shared our plans for new scents, a glass return program, lower price point offerings, more in-person gatherings and partnerships, and long-term independence.

Before you share more thoughts with us, I thought you might be interested in reviewing our progress on those plans.

New scents are coming!

The difficult decision last year to reduce how many scents we offered at a time has given us the space to work on our next scents. Not only have we spent the last year developing new scents, we have completely overhauled our ingredient framework and approach to sourcing and designing our formulae—keeping and enhancing the high standard that defines our scents to date.

We are almost done formulating our first scent of this new era, and I can’t wait to share it with you in just a few months.

A number of other factors led us to decide to accelerate development of further scents, so in 2025 you will see several more new scents launch!

The v2 of our glass returns program is delayed

Mostly as a result of us deciding to shift more resources to our new scent direction, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to de-prioritize the glass returns program. It requires a fair amount of design and engineering to make it work, both economically and environmentally, but it’s still very much something we intend on pursuing, hopefully next year.

Lower price point offerings launched!

We had a strong response to our new offerings. In case you missed it, during Limited Releases we now offer a ridiculously low-priced, packaging-light, 6-pack option . In fact, you can purchase such a discounted pack in our Waves scent right now.

We have a Studio Seconds event happening this coming weekend in Kingston, NY (see flyer below!) and are planning another Studio Seconds event in NYC in December. We'll continue holding a Studio Seconds online sale each spring, though it all depends on how many Studio Seconds we generate. (The only downside to getting better at waste reduction!)

More in-person events

Last fall and winter, we held a number of pop-ups in our Kingston hometown and NYC, and are planning to do the same this year, adding more events in each.

We’d love to bring our pop-ups to other regions where we have Keapers, but we need to be a little bigger to be able to take that on. (So tell your friends about Keap!)

Before I share our annual survey, what are you curious to hear from our community? I love getting your input!

Warmly,

— Harry from Keap, Steward-Owner

If you enjoyed this article, you might enjoy our not-quite-weekly free newsletter where we share our lessons on our journey toward our regenerative vision, product launches, and behind-the-scenes happenings.

We left social media in 2021 because we found its current mechanics didn’t align with our purpose to facilitate connection to the natural world, our loved ones, and our own spirits. Since then, our newsletter has become a vibrant place for healthy conversation around topics ranging from alternative business ownership models to happy hour cocktail recipes.
